How long will it take?
One of the most common and understandable questions is “how long will it take and how many sessions will I need?”
When I had my own electrolysis it took some 230 hours which were spread over two and a half years. I would have three hour sessions, but the most commonly requested time is for two hours. Depending upon the growth cycle of the hair and attendance at your scheduled appointments, then it is likely that a two year minimum will be required to clear the lower face.
We will prepare a preliminary treatment plan at your consultation, we will also provide honest and truthful guidance as to the anticipated length of time and costs. It is very important that we share realistic expectations from the start of your treatment.
Will it be painful?
Thanks to the many advances in technology, the treatment time per hair is now possible in 1/100th and 1/1000th of a second. This is barely perceptible, but will always still be dependant upon the skills of the electrologist and of the quality and accuracy of insertions into the hair follicle.
How do you see such a tiny hair opening in the skin (called the ostium)?
Electroepilation is a highly skilled process which demands accuracy and excellent sight of the targeted hair. To assist in this we use surgical loupe magnifying lenses, which increase insertion precision to the highest and most consistent standards.
The quality of the stretch is also important and is made with three fingers at the time of insertion of the probe, which helps expose the ostium and reduces sensation. Wherever possible, we position you so that we face the direction of hair growth. This helps us judge the angle of the hair follicle and increases productivity.
Asepsis (hygiene)
We use disposable probes which come pre-sterilised and only for one person use. Reusable instruments (tweezers etc) follow a strict asepsis programme of cleansing, disinfection and sterilisation in an approved surgical standard autoclave.
Towels, blankets and support cushion covers etc, are for only one person use and are laundered as per hospital linen. Treatment table, optical equipment and associated items are disinfected and cleansed fresh for each client.
Regrowth
Once the main clearance of the targeted treatment area has been completed, then regrowth will primarily be anagen hair. It is important to follow the appointment schedule, which will be discussed and agreed on during your initial consultation. This enables the most efficient treatment, as wherever possible anagen hair is most suitable for successful results.
